German draughts is the default. You can switch to the other four before a game or in the settings.
- German draughts8×8, twelve pieces, capture forwards only, flying king
- International draughts10×10, twenty pieces, the longest capture is compulsory
- English draughts8×8, capture forwards only, the king moves one square
- Russian draughts8×8, capture in all directions, promotion during a capture
- Turkish draughts8×8, every square, sixteen pieces, straight moves instead of diagonal
German draughts in short
The game is played on the 32 dark squares of an 8×8 board, with twelve pieces each; light moves first. A man moves one square diagonally forward and captures by jumping over an opposing piece — in German draughts only forwards. Capturing is compulsory, and if another capture follows from the landing square, it continues. A man that ends its move on the far row becomes a king and moves any distance along the diagonal. You win when your opponent has no pieces or no moves left.
Common questions
Does Master Draughts cost anything?
No. Every rule variant, every level, all thirty opponents and the championship can be played without paying, and there is no advertising. If you like, you can support development voluntarily on Ko-fi; it gives no advantage in the game.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up. Your progress is kept in your browser on this device — if you clear your browser data, you start over.
Can two people play on one device?
Yes. Besides the computer at four levels there is a two-player mode on the same device — taking turns at the board.
Which rules are used?
The default is German draughts: 8×8, twelve pieces, compulsory capture, flying kings. You can also choose International draughts (10×10), English draughts (checkers), Russian and Turkish draughts.
How does the championship work?
Four leagues of eight, fourteen match days home and away. A win is three points, a draw one. The top two of a league go up, the bottom two go down. Three placement games at the start decide where you begin; league games are always played under tournament rules.
How strong is the computer?
Four levels: Easy, Medium, Hard and Master. The highest uses every combination. In the championship the opponents get stronger from league to league.
How do I learn draughts?
The app includes a seven-step tutorial with pictures of the board — from moving to compulsory capture to the king. It is always available from the main menu.
Is Master Draughts available as an app?
Not at the moment. Master Draughts runs in the browser — on your phone, your tablet and your computer, with nothing to install.
A wooden board, twelve pieces, one opponent. Draughts never needed more.
